Aba Shanti-I is a dub producer and sound system operator born in Hackney, London, where he maintains his studio today. Since the early 1990s, he has been a cornerstone of UK roots reggae and dub culture, establishing a residency at Notting Hill Carnival in 1993 and co-founding the University of Dub in the late 1990s. With his brother Blood Shanti and the Shanti-Ites collective, he launched Falasha Recordings in 1993 to champion live instrumentation and sound-system-crafted music rooted in Caribbean and African consciousness. His sound, characterized by heavy reverb, delay, and towering basslines, has influenced global dub culture through decades of performances across Europe and beyond.
