DJ Babatr (Pedro Elías Corro) is a producer and DJ from Caracas, Venezuela, where he pioneered raptor house, a high-energy electronic genre that emerged from the barrios in the early 2000s. The sound blends hard techno, tribal house, and Afro-Caribbean percussion into a rapid, synth-driven style built around 140 BPM grooves and pounding basslines. Based in Caracas, Babatr stepped away from production in 2008 after the scene faced intense stigma and racism, but has since experienced international recognition, performing at venues including Berghain and festivals like Unsound and Primavera Sound. His breakthrough track "Las Lomas" from 2001 became an anthem of the midday raves (matinés) that defined the culture, and archival compilations like Root Echoes have introduced his work to global audiences. Babatr remains the definitive voice of raptor house, reinterpreting Venezuelan barrio energy through electronic music.
