Minneapolis-based techno DJ and producer, DVS1 (Zak Khutoretsky) emerged from the Midwest rave scene in the 1990s. He first gained recognition in 2009 with a release on Ben Klock's Klockworks label, followed by work with Transmat and Ostgut Ton. In 2011 he launched HUSH, his flagship imprint, alongside the sub-label Mistress Recordings which encompasses house, techno, and music in between. A dedicated Berghain resident since 2009, DVS1 plays regular six-to-eight times per year at the Berlin institution and hosts monthly underground parties in his hometown. Beyond DJing, he has championed artist advocacy through launching Support.Organize.Sustain, a discussion series on electronic music issues, and Aslice, a platform enabling DJs to share revenue with the artists featured in their sets.
