Born and raised in South Norwood, London, Mala is a foundational figure in dubstep and UK bass music. One half of Digital Mystikz with Coki, he co-founded the DMZ club night in the early 2000s, which became central to dubstep's emergence as a distinct genre. His own label Deep Medi Musik, established in 2006, expanded the sound beyond its origins, releasing records by Silkie, Skream, Goth-Trad, and Kahn. Tracks like "Learn" and "Anti War Dub" exemplify his rhythmic precision and understanding of dub's spatial depth. Beyond electronic music, Mala has collaborated across jazz, reggae, and orchestral settings, most notably on Joe Armon-Jones' 2022 project.
