Mathew Jonson is a Canadian producer and musician based in Berlin, born in 1978. He began exploring synthesizers at age nine and developed a distinctive approach to electronic music that fuses analog synthesis with classical piano and jazz influences. Active since the early 2000s, he released his early work on labels including ITISWHATITIS Recordings, Perlon, and Kompakt, establishing himself with tracks like Marionette and Decompression. His live performances are built around real-time manipulation of vintage synthesizers and drum machines, eschewing samples for melodic content in favor of performing and improvising directly with hardware. Beyond his solo career, Jonson collaborates within projects like Cobblestone Jazz and the Modern Deep Left Quartet, and has released studio albums including Agents of Time and Her Blurry Pictures.
