Not Today/ ARTISTSNightmares on Wax is the project of George Evelyn, a Leeds-born DJ and producer who formed the group in 1988 with collaborators John Halnon and Kevin Harper before continuing as a solo venture. Beginning with A Word of Science on Warp Records in 1991, Evelyn developed a signature sound blending soul, hip-hop, jazz, and reggae with electronic production, defining the trip-hop and chillout genres of the 1990s. His 1995 album Smokers Delight became one of the most influential downtempo releases, ranked among the best trip-hop records of all time, and subsequent albums like Carboot Soul and Mind Elevation reinforced his status as a key figure in atmospheric electronic music. In 2005 he founded the Wax On record label, continuing to release albums and DJ mixes while latterly based in Ibiza. Throughout a career spanning more than three decades, Evelyn has maintained a distinctive approach to production, sampling classic soul records and layering them with live instrumentation and collaborators.
