Born in Buenos Aires to Cape Verdean families, Rumi de Baires drew early inspiration from jazz, Brazilian music, and African artists before starting to DJ in 2005 while studying psychology in Florida. Based in Vienna since 2016, he is a resident of the collective "A Party Called Jack", which celebrates house music's roots in funk, soul, and disco, and co-founded GAZE, a platform centering queer voices in electronic music and culture. His club sets navigate house, disco, breaks, and techno while incorporating jazz elements, soulful vocals, and Afro-Latin rhythms that reflect his upbringing. With a background in social research, Rumi brings a community-oriented ethos to his work across DJing, production, and radio, including the show "GEMS" on Refuge Worldwide.
