Frank Timm, performing as Soundstream, is a native Berliner who has anchored the city's house and disco scene for more than two decades. Emerging from Berlin's techno basement culture in the early 1990s, he became closely associated with the Hard Wax record store and its custodianship of Detroit and Chicago traditions. Under his Soundstream alias, Timm creates sample-based house and disco music centered on hypnotic loops, while his Soundhack moniker channels more techno-oriented and experimental material; both imprints are distributed through Hard Wax. Working alongside Errorsmith, he has also produced longer-form work under the Smith n Hack banner. His approach to production reveals funk and soul roots, with clear debts to artists like James Brown and Chic, woven through precise sampling and modular composition methods.
