Jochem Paap, known as Speedy J, is a Rotterdam-based techno producer and DJ who emerged in the early 1990s alongside figures like Richie Hawtin and Aphex Twin. His breakthrough came with the 1992 track Pullover and the 1993 debut album Ginger, which balanced ambient textures with crisp beats and appeared on Warp Records' influential Artificial Intelligence series. A key artist on Plus 8 and Novamute, he expanded his sonic palette with albums like Public Energy No. 1 and G Spot, moving toward more complex, sample-driven arrangements. Beyond recording, Paap founded the Electric Deluxe label and event series, establishing himself as a curator of left-field techno and collaborative practices that blur live performance and DJing.
