Born Kerstin Egert in Bavaria, Tama Sumo moved to Berlin in 1990 and began DJing in 1993 at Drama Bar in Kreuzberg, playing New York-style vocal house when techno dominated the city's other venues. She became a resident at Tresor from 1994 through the mid-2000s, then joined the Dance With The Aliens parties at OstGut before becoming a resident at Berghain and Panorama Bar when the club opened. Her style evolved from soulful house to encompass techno, disco, broken beat, and afrobeat, drawing from a vast collection of vinyl. She has released collaborations with Prosumer on OstGut Ton, the label she remains signed to, and continues as a long-standing Panorama Bar resident known for emotional, intuitive selections.
