The Illustrious Blacks is a New York City-based DJ and performance duo comprising Manchildblack and Monstah Black, a married couple. Since forming in 2012, they have built a sound that blends house, funk, disco, and electronic music inspired by the aesthetics of 1970s and 1980s dance culture, drawing from influences like Prince, David Bowie, and Grace Jones. Their work spans live DJ sets, vocal performances, and theatrical elements that merge music, dance, and fashion. They released their debut EP Neo Afro Futuristic Psychedelic Surrealistic Hippy on Concierge Records in 2017, followed by the 2020 EP Technegrocolor. The pair have performed internationally at venues ranging from Ministry of Sound in London to Lincoln Center in New York, and have collaborated with producers including Osunlade, Soul Clap, and Tedd Patterson.
