Traxx (Melvin Oliphant III) is a Chicago-based DJ and producer shaped by the city's underground house tradition. Active since around 2000, he coined and pioneered the jakbeat aesthetic, a lo-fi, experimental approach drawing from vintage 1980s drum machines and distorted electronics rather than polished house production. His discography spans labels including Gigolo, Relief, L.I.E.S., and Rong Records, with the 2004 Dirty Criminals album "Organized Confuzion" representing key early work. Beyond performing internationally, Traxx founded Nation Records to document jakbeat's development and continues to operate primarily with analog equipment and vinyl.
