VIL is the alias of Portuguese producer and DJ Nuno Costa, based in Lisbon. Active since 2013, he focuses on techno, electro, breaks, and house music. His debut EP arrived on Extended Records in 2015, followed by releases on Faut Section, Synewave New York, Klockworks, and most recently Planet Rhythm. In 2018, Costa co-founded Hayes, a Portuguese collective and label showcasing distinct sonic approaches through vinyl and digital releases. His production balances old-school sensibilities with contemporary detail, as heard on his 2024 debut album Birds of Prey via Steffi's Dolly label, which paired raw, percussive house and techno with Detroit influences. He has appeared at Berghain.
